What to Expect - Child Photography or Family Photography Session

Child and family photography sessions take place in the home or at another selected location. Sessions are available year round in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Suburban Maryland, and Richmond, Virginia. Sessions are available several times a year in NYC, and once a year in upstate New York.

If we are shooting in your home, please make sure to remove clutter from the background areas prior to the session start time. If you need ideas on locations, I have several in the area that I can recommend, based on your vision for your photographs.

Your photo session will consist of approximately 45 minutes to one hour of shooting time. The focus of the session is capturing the essence of the subject. This does not always mean smiley photos! I would rather have a ten genuine pensive expressions than a single forced "cheesy smile" any day of the week.

Backdrop stands are not used. Natural light is generally used, but may be supplemented with lights when needed. Accessories such as hats, scarves, flowers (real, please!!), special toys and heirlooms are enthusiastically encouraged, but not necessary. I do have tutus, bubble wands, and classic toys - if you are interested, please let me know prior to your session date.

An outfit change is encouraged. We will change scenery to the extent possible in your location, and time will be taken to engage your child to show the different facets of his/her personality. Session fee pays for time, artistic vision, basic retouching, and gallery preparation only.
